Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is illegal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that features many comforts accompanying the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
